Custom Rug Developed for Interior Designers

MATERIALS & TECHNIQUES

A considered approach to fibre, construction, and craftsmanship.

Material and technique selection plays a defining role in how a rug performs, feels, and integrates within an interior. Each choice is guided by design intent, spatial context, and functional requirements, ensuring the final rug supports both aesthetic and long-term performance needs.

MATERIALS

A wide range of natural, regenerated, and blended fibres are used depending on the project brief. Material selection considers texture, durability, maintenance, and the desired visual and tactile outcome.

Commonly used materials include:

  • New Zealand wool

  • Merino wool

  • Bamboo silk

  • Tencel™

  • Mohair

  • Silk

  • Jute

  • Hemp

  • Saree silk

  • PET yarn

Materials may be used individually or blended to achieve specific textures, tonal depth, and performance characteristics suited to the space.

MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS

Wool
Durable, resilient, and timeless. Well-suited for architectural spaces and high-traffic areas.

Silk
Adds luster, depth, and light play. Often used to highlight detail and create tonal variation.

Blends
Enable controlled sheen, texture, and performance by combining fibres to suit project requirements.

Natural Fibres (Jute, Hemp, Saree Silk)
Introduce organic texture and a more relaxed, tactile character.

Regenerated Fibres (Bamboo Silk, Tencel™)
Offer softness and sheen with consistent colour response and refined finish.

TECHNIQUES

Construction technique influences pile height, texture, durability, and overall finish. Techniques are selected in response to design language, usage, and project conditions.

Hand-Knotted
Dense and durable construction suited for detailed designs and long-term use.

Hand-Tufted
Allows flexibility in pattern, texture, and pile variation with efficient production timelines.

Flatweave
Low-profile construction ideal for layered interiors and high-traffic environments.

High–Low Texture
Creates depth and visual interest through controlled variation in pile height and construction.

Handloom

A loom-woven technique suited for flat or low-pile rugs, enabling clean geometry, rhythm, and repeatable pattern sequences.

MATERIAL & TECHNIQUE GUIDANCE

Material and construction recommendations are developed in collaboration with the design team, considering:

  • Intended use and foot traffic

  • Spatial scale and proportion

  • Maintenance and performance requirements

  • Desired tactile and visual character

Sampling plays a key role in this process, allowing designers to review texture, colour behaviour, and construction before final production.

PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS

Each rug is developed to suit its specific environment—residential, hospitality, or commercial. Construction and material choices are aligned with functional demands while maintaining design integrity and longevity.
